Heat and dust both scale with size. A large enclosure with a glass front and eight motors runs measurably warmer than the room, and a bigger interior collects more dust across more surfaces. Cleaning goes from occasional to genuinely routine.

Finally, consider whether the maker sells parts. At one slot a dead winder is an annoyance. At twelve it is an expensive replacement, and the units built to be serviced justify their premium here more clearly than anywhere else in the category.
